The Henkel Square event is a semi-immersion, civilian-centered event in Round Top, Texas. The aim of the event is to enable participants to experience a semi-immersion Civil War event in Texas.
Late February 1861. The Texas legislature has voted to become the 7th state to secede from the Union and join the Confederate States of America and the vote has now been given to the people. Fort Sumner has not yet been fired on, but the Alamo has been surrendered by General Twiggs to Texas forces.
After the election in 1860, Texas as a whole was ready to leave the union. The Texas secession convention met late January 1861 and voted on the ordinance of secession on February 1 with a vote of 166 for to 8 against The secession question was then put to the general public as a referendum.

This battle commemorates the original battle of December 28, 1861, where Nathan B. Forrest first engaged Crittenden's Army of the Ohio . Before each reenactment, we dedicate the battlefield in honor of each person who wore the uniform of self-sacrifice. After the sound of thundering hooves has been silenced and the smell of gunpowder still lingers over the crowd, we pause to better understand the truth in "United We Stand, Divided We Fall."
We sincerely hope that you will come and join us this year to make this a memorable weekend.

A very fun filled and exciting weekend. See the website for full details, it is updated regularly, as we keep adding stuff all the time.
Bobby Horton will be coming in on Friday, so that he can spend some time around the campfires, meeting people, and he may even sing a song from time to time. Saturday, he will be performing at 8.00 until, well, until he  and the audience has had enough.
The Hunley will be coming on Thursday, and will set up for the weekend. As a special treat, anyone brave enough, can get inside to really see what it felt like. The dinner will be very similar to last year. Smoked beef brisket, BBQ pork, plus many varied sides, plus chili from the contest, and desserts of all kinds. Lots of action on the battlefield, with artillery crashing away, and ground charges exploding. We expect a very high turnout for the military this year, so it should be good. There is an L-shaped stone wall on a rise, about 60 feet long, that will give us a very good area for our tactical, plus, we do have a beach.

The Moorpark Rotary Club presents Southern California's "largest and grandest Civil War event," the 9th annual "The Blue & The Gray." This event on the extreme west side of the LA Metropolitan Area, but in a delightful rural setting, has become "the jewel of West Coast Civil War reenactments." Quite simply, it has more combatant and civilian reenactors, more artillery, more mounted cavalry, more pyrotechnics, more sutlers, more spectators, and more amenities than at any other event in Southern California and, possibly, west of the Rockies. No pre-registration is required. Two battles take place daily, with an added spectacular twilight battle on Saturday. Hollywood Civil War-related celebrities abound. As usual, low cost reenactor meals and a free Saturday night dance will be provided. All proceeds go to charity. For more information, visit the reenactor web site, www.forttejon.org/moorpark, or contact Col. Ed Mann, Howitzers1@aol.com.

One hundred forty-eight years ago, June 14, 1862, a small group of Confederates soldiers from the 1st SC Artillery had just completed a portion of the earthwork embankments of Tower Battery located on James Island. The battery came under assault in a pre-dawn attack from an invading Federal force. The ensuing battle proved disastrous for the invading Federals. Outmanned 3 to 1, the Confederate troops stood their ground and won a decisive victory that would signify Charleston's strong defenses against the invading Federal forces. On November 12-14, 2010, history will repeat itself in the form of living history.  Step back into time as men, women and children present what life may have been like during the Antebellum era. Become a part of that era with interactive historical displays. Come relive the actions of the men who fought with honor and courage as the Confederate Heritage Trust in association with Boone Hall Plantation bring you the 19th Annual Re-enactment of the Battle of Secessionville.
